What is VDC?

VDC stands for Vehicle Dynamic Control.

In case you’re still none the wiser, VDC is the vehicle stability system used in Nissan vehicles.  When the system is actively preventing a disaster, the orange SLIP light will blink rapidly on the dashboard.

How does it work?

The system monitors readings from 4 different types of sensors in the car

  • Wheel speed sensors
  • Yaw rate sensor
  • Steering angle sensor
  • Brake pressure monitors

When the computer decides that the combined readings are going to lead to trouble, it will reduce engine output and apply braking inputs to various individual wheels to help stabilise the situation.

Note – it will not prevent a crash if you are driving like a hooligan!
